Giants' 21-Point Comeback Marred by Saquon Barkley Ankle Injury

The New York Giants defeated the Arizona Cardinals 31-28 at State Farm Stadium on Sunday, tying their best comeback victory in team history.

Despite the potential of losing star running back Saquon Barkley to an ankle injury, the visitors won thrillingly.

Barkley, who scored two touchdowns (one running and one receiving), will get an MRI in Arizona on Monday to establish the severity of the injury and how long he will miss.

Although Barkley's ankle was swollen after the game, one source said "it's an ordinary [sprain], rather than a high-ankle sprain."

Barkley, who was the only sour face in the locker room after the Giants overturned a 28-7 hole to equal their record,

refused to remark on the ankle injury, which happened when the ankle rolled awkwardly at the bottom of a pile after a run up the middle with little over a minute left.

This week, the Giants will stay in Arizona before going to San Francisco on Wednesday for Thursday's game against the 49ers.

This season, Barkley, 26, has a revised franchise tag. He'll be a free agent after the season.

Barkley has ankle problems. He missed three 2019 games and four 2021 games with right and left ankle injuries, respectively.

Meanwhile, the Giants may have preserved their season. New York was behind 20-0 Sunday after losing 40-0 to the Dallas Cowboys a week earlier.

Giants surrendered 60 points before scoring their first point of the season, second most since 1970 merger and most since 1978 Baltimore Colts (86).

On the first offensive play of the second half, Jones passed to rookie Jalin Hyatt for 58 yards.

Giants had 358 yards in the second half, up from 81 in the first. "The finish that these guys had... it was good to win," Daboll stated.
