Cowboys' Jerry Jones: Working To increase minority ownership in NFL

Jerry Jones, Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager, wants more minority NFL ownership.

"Nobody got in on a wing and prayer any more than I did, and I really couldn't afford it," Jones said after the Cowboys' 30-10 victory against the Jets.

There are several approaches to fight inequality. Multiple approaches. One thing I may attempt is to enhance minority ownership. I support and do it. Working at it. Working at it."

Jones' statements were tied to former NFL Media staffer Jim Trotter's racial discrimination lawsuit against the NFL.

The complaint claims Jones told Trotter and others, "If Blacks feel some kind of way, they should buy their own team and hire who they want to hire." That wasn't "accurate." Jones said Sunday.

"Jim's a friend and I admire him," Jones remarked. "I hate that we've got litigation and hopefully we'll resolve it, but the overall concern is unfounded."

Jones met with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to promote minority ownership. Basketball Hall of Famer Magic Johnson invested in the Washington Commanders.

The Commanders sold for a record $6.05 billion. Last year, the Broncos sold for $4.65 billion. Last month, Forbes valued the Cowboys at $9 billion.

"You know the financial hurdles for everything have gone up, but percentage-wise there are qualified people," Jones added.

"I can discuss being engaged and owning something with others. I've desired it when I couldn't afford it and am a huge believer in you."
